Hamill, Sam and Sally Anderson. Poets Against the War (Nation Books, 2003).

Led by poet Sam Hamill, February 12, 2003 became a day of Poetry Against the War conducted as a reading at the White House gates in addition to over 160 public readings in many different countries and almost all of the 50 states. Since then, over 9,000 poets have joined this grassroots peace movement by submitting poems and statements to Poetsagainstthewar.org, registering their opposition to the Bush administration's headlong plunge toward war in Iraq. Poets Against the War features a selection of the best poems that were submitted to the web site. Contributors include: Adrienne Rich, W.S. Merwin, Galway Kinnell, Robert Bly, Marilyn Hacker, Grace Schulman, Shirley Kaufman, Wanda Coleman, Yusef Komunyakaa, Hayden Carruth, Jane Hirshfield, Tess Gallagher, Sandra Cisneros, former Poet Laureate Rita Dove, and many others.

Swift, Todd (editor). 100 Poets Against the War (Salt Publishing, 2003).

The most talked-about and successful ebook of recent years was published for the first time in paperback. 100 Poets Against The War, a trilogy of downloadable electronic chapbooks was first published online on January 27, 2003 and has since made world-wide news from the LA Times to the Moscow dailies. The book holds the record for the fastest poetry anthology ever assembled and disseminated; first planned on January 20, 2003 and published on March 3, 2003.

The grass-roots appeal of peace poetry has seen this book shared by tens of thousands, and read at peace demonstrations from Seattle to the Middle East. It has spawned French, German and Brazilian versions, and continues to inspire those who oppose a unilateral, US-led strike against the people of Iraq. It marks a moment in the history of resistance to war. Several of the poets featured in Voices in Wartime, Rachel Bentham, Sampurana Chattarji and Todd Swift are part of the anthology.
